The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office arrested a 34-year-old man on Thursday for stabbing another guy, leading police and CHP officers on a pursuit, and staging a standoff on Highway 50.

According to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office, the incident began Wednesday at 10:30 p.m., when deputies were dispatched to complaints of a domestic violence fight in the Arden-Arcade neighborhood. When deputies arrived, the woman told them that she had been “choked out multiple times by her boyfriend” before being sent to the hospital. Deputies later identified the boyfriend as Robert Zimbelman, who is 34 years old.

Just after midnight on Thursday, deputies were dispatched to a petrol station on Fair Oaks Boulevard in response to reports of a man being stabbed. Deputies stated when they arrived at the site, they discovered the man with “severe injuries after having been stabbed in the stomach and face.” The victim was sent to a hospital and is likely to live.

“Based on their investigation, Deputies and Crime Scene Investigators discovered that the defendant slammed his vehicle into the victim’s vehicle before stabbing him many times. The suspect then left the scene in a blue automobile. Deputies on the scene determined that Zimbelman was also the suspect in the stabbing, according to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office.

A search for Zimbelman began, and at around 4 a.m., the Fairfield Police Department reported discovering him in his vehicle. According to the sheriff’s office, he led Fairfield police officers and California Highway Patrol officers on a car pursuit before crashing near Jefferson Boulevard and Highway 50 in Yolo County.

Zimbelman then attempted to flee on foot, according to deputies, before proceeding to the Jefferson Boulevard Overpass and “threatening to jump and kill himself,” according to the sheriff’s office. “CHP Crisis Negotiators convinced Zimbelman to surrender peacefully when he was taken into custody without further incident.”

Zimbelman was transported to a local hospital and medically cleared before being lodged into the Sacramento County Main Jail for various offenses. His bail is set at $150,000.
