Miguel Hung, a 71-year-old grandpa from Raleigh, North Carolina, was found dead about two weeks after leaving his house and becoming missing, according to his family and authorities.

Hung went missing between the evening of August 9 and the early morning of August 10, according to his son Mike Hung.

The retired auto salesman left the house without his mobile phone or money, taking his wife Pamela’s silver Mercedes.

According to Raleigh Police Department authorities, Hung was “located deceased” around 5 miles from his home on Tuesday, Aug. 20, at about 3:55 a.m. local time.

Police said there were “no suspicious circumstances” surrounding his death. Further information was not provided.

However, while Hung’s family grieves, they express how much the outpouring of support has meant to them.

“Sometimes you find beauty in the world,” Mike, 38, tells People. “Family and friends reaching out, sharing stories, it helps the healing.” Miguel, who was just 14 when he “gave up everything to chase a better life” and move from Cuba, has been dealing with mental health concerns in recent years after suffering a heart attack and bypass surgery in 2019, followed by a stroke in 2021, according to his son.

Miguel had some aphasia following the stroke, according to his son, who stated that his health concerns “put a pretty big cloud over him and he struggled with that the last few years.”
Mike tells PEOPLE that his father was always willing to help people and make time for friends — when he wasn’t with family, including his wife of 45 years.

Mike tells PEOPLE that he and his sister Brittany Rutledge never missed a soccer game growing up.

Mike adds that he just received a message from a former boyhood teammate who stated, “Your dad was always our favorite soccer dad.”
He goes on to say, “My dad was an incredible guy.”
