At around 9:15 p.m., the man was driving a 2003 Nissan Altima westbound on Veterans Memorial Highway in Smithtown with his girlfriend and their 11-year-old kid. Sunday, September 1.
He then ran a red light at the junction of Old Willets Path, nearly colliding with a marked Suffolk County PD Third Precinct Patrol vehicle driving northbound, according to authorities.
The officers in the police vehicle pulled stopped the Nissan and discovered that Terrance Brown, 45, of Jamaica, Queens, was inebriated.

It was also discovered that the Nissan’s license plates had previously been reported stolen.
Brown was charged with:
- Aggravated driving while inebriated with a kid passenger aged 15 or under (Leandra’s Law),
- Endangering the well-being of a child
- Criminal possession of stolen items.
He was held overnight at the Sixth Precinct and is due to be arraigned in Central Islip’s First District Court on Monday, September 2.
