Prosecutors are seeking the death sentence for a woman accused of murdering a 6-week-old infant.
Nicole Virzi, 29, of San Diego, Calif., was babysitting the newborn in June when police were dispatched to the 6000 block of Walnut Street to investigate complaints of a baby falling from a bassinet.
The infant was brought to UPMC Children’s Hospital and died of a major skull fracture and several brain bleeds. A doctor stated that the injuries were not natural or accidental.
Court filings reveal that the Allegheny County District Attorney’s Office filed a notice of intent to seek the death sentence on Thursday.
Virzi is being incarcerated at the Allegheny County Jail.
