Police Hunt ‘Armed and Dangerous’ Suspect in El Cajon Dental Office Shooting: One Dead, Two Injured

A gunman fired shots inside a California dental office on Thursday afternoon, resulting in one death and two injuries before police located the suspect.

The individual in question, known as 29-year-old Mohammed Abdulkareem, was reportedly armed with a handgun and deemed to be a threat.

The police stated that he was apprehended shortly after 10pm on Thursday. The individual has been apprehended and the weapon has been found. 

On Thursday at 4.15pm, law enforcement received an emergency call at Smile Plus Dentistry & Orthodontics on North Magnolia Avenue in El Cajon, a city located approximately 15 miles northeast of San Diego.

First responders offered crucial assistance to three individuals. Everyone present was in the office when the shooting occurred, according to Police Captain Rob Ransweiler. 

An update was provided by the San Diego Fire Scanner stating that a good samaritan located the suspect vehicle at Sixth Avenue & Quince St just west of Balboa Park.

Officers from the SDPD also found a glock handgun case on the floorboard of the passenger seat.

As per the authorities, the deceased individual was male and has not been publicly named.

Officials mentioned that the coroner’s office will handle the identification process.

Ransweiler provided information to the press on Thursday evening. He mentioned that the officers discovered the victim who had passed away inside the office while the shooting was ongoing.

They then moved him outside to administer life-saving measures in a safe environment.

Stable Victims, Abdulkareem Apprehended in Office Shooting

Two individuals who were injured were transported to nearby medical facilities. The young woman and the middle-aged man were in stable condition on Thursday evening. No other injuries in the office have been documented. 

The woman’s father informed Telemundo San Diego that she is 27 years old and was shot in the legs. 

Abdulkareem was apprehended near the location where the vehicle was discovered.

Authorities did not disclose if they suspect the shooting was intentional or if they think the perpetrator was acquainted with any of the victims.

Shortly after the shooting, his white U-Haul pickup truck with Arizona license plate AM14894 was identified.

Authorities stated that they later verified that the individual had indeed rented the vehicle.

The FBI’s San Diego team, along with the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, are assisting in the investigation.
