Philadelphia police say a guy died after being shot in the chest during an accident on Roosevelt Boulevard.
Shortly before 1 p.m. on Wednesday, police responded to reports of a shooting near West Roosevelt Boulevard and Old York Road. Officers arrived on the scene and discovered a man in his late 30s with a gunshot wound to the chest. He was transported to a neighboring hospital and proclaimed dead shortly after.
According to police, the victim was driving a silver Honda CR-V and collided with the median and another car while going north on Roosevelt Boulevard.
According to authorities, two bullet holes were discovered in the rear of the Honda CR-V.
There were also white scrape marks from where the Honda crashed along Roosevelt Blvd’s median, crushed the front end, and rear-ended the second vehicle.

“Turns out he was shot through his back and the bullet came out his chest and we know he was in the vehicle when he was shot cause we found a bullet hole through the seat, then that bullet went through the seat, struck him in the back and came out his chest,” said Chief Inspector Scott Small, of the Portland Police Department.
Police closed the northbound lanes of Route 1 before Old York Road for four hours to search for fired bullet cartridge casings and determine where the incident occurred. The road was reopened shortly before 5 p.m., but authorities found no evidence or witnesses to the incident.
“We just don’t know where exactly the shooter or shooters were when the shots were fired,” stated Chief Inspector Small.
According to FOX 29 detectives, the Honda is registered to a woman in Northeast Philadelphia.
By the start of FOX 29’s 10 p.m. newscast on Wednesday, police were attempting to contact the woman to identify the man shot and killed while driving her Honda.

Detectives hope that someone was on the busy highway at the time and noticed automobiles jostling just before 1 p.m. Given what happened with the silver Honda, I’m hoping someone heard gunfire and remembers any vehicle.
“We don’t know the reason for the shooting,” Small stated. “Road rage may have been a factor, as he was driving in the center lanes on the Blvd extension heading northbound towards Roosevelt Blvd…” Hopefully, when someone learns this was a homicide, they witnessed something. Perhaps they heard gunshots.”
There were no firearms seized, and no arrests were made.
This is a continuing investigation.
