In eight years, the United States of America has not won a medal in the sport of rowing at the Olympic Games.

A frustrating rowing medal drought for the United States of America came to an end on Thursday when the men’s four-stroke team, consisting of Nick Mead, Justin Best, Michael Grady, and Liam Corrigan, won the gold medal in the final.

In the end, the American four finished with a 0.85-second advantage over the New Zealand team that had won the silver medal. They led the race practically end-to-end. Bronze was awarded to Great Britain, who finished three seconds behind the United States.

The American win unseats the formerly dominant men’s four boats in the world, which had been held by the British for two consecutive years, 2022 and 2023 when they won the global championship.

In 2016, the United States of America won the gold medal in the women’s eight-meter race at the Olympic Games. The country now holds the second-most rowing medals in the world with 90.

At the beginning of August, the waters of the Vaires-sur-Marne Nautical Stadium were filled with individuals competing for medals. The double sculls and the fours were the most popular events, and finals were held in both of them.
