The crash occurred around 3:15 a.m. on August 4, 2022, near the intersection of Colonial Drive and Mills Avenue, according to authorities. According to Wilcoxson’s arrest affidavit, the SUV was traveling east on Colonial Drive at a high speed when it hit the positive grade of Mills and became airborne, rotating clockwise as it landed and continuing over the southern curb of Colonial, where it side-swiped a building and collided with a concrete utility pole, causing the vehicle to split in half.

The crash ejected Wilcoxson’s passenger, Bakari Jackson, who was brought to a hospital and pronounced dead within an hour, according to authorities.
A witness to the incident told police that he was at the light next to CVS when it happened and observed Wilcoxson get out of the destroyed SUV as Jackson stood still on the pavement. According to the affidavit, the witness attempted to phone 911 while Wilcoxson had already begun to place some of his belongings in the witness’ vehicle.
According to the affidavit, when an officer arrived at the hospital to speak with Wilcoxson, he requested that blood samples be obtained for toxicology. According to the document, analysis of the SUV’s Electronic Data Recorder revealed that the vehicle was going at a maximum speed of nearly 85 mph when the brakes were used, even though the speed limit on that section of Colonial Drive is 40 mph.
The results of Wilcoxson’s blood screening, obtained under warrant, were ready early the next month, revealing an ethanol concentration of 0.092 g/dl. The affidavit said that Wilcoxson was driving under the influence at the time of the accident.
