Mrs. Frances Clementine “Clem” Grimes Hayes
Resided in Trion, GA
Mrs. Frances Clementine “Clem” Grimes Hayes, age 93, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday morning, April 2021.
Clem was born in Trion, Georgia on September 17, 1927, to Rufus and Ida Grimes. She was the last surviving child of sixteen children. She was preceded in death by parents and the love of her life, John W. Hayes.
Clem was a long-time member of the Welcome Hill Community where she was born and lived for more than 85 years. She was an honor graduate of the last eleven year class of Trion High School. A Christian and Baptist by Faith she served many years at Welcome Hill Baptist Church. Clem sang in the choir, taught Sunday School, started their GA and RA programs, and was the WMU director and served in the VBS program for many years. In recent years, she had started to attend the Pennville Baptist Church. She was retired from Mount Vernon Mills, formerly Riegel Textile, with 37 years in the Packing Department and 8 years in their Hosiery Mill. She was also a member of the Quarter Century Club.
Clem is survived by three daughters, Joan Blackwelder, Carol (Kenneth) Stowe and Alicia Hayes; son, Scott Hayes; 11 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; nieces, nephews and many other family and friends.
Graveside and Interment Services for Clem will be held Sunday, May 2, 2021 at 2:00 P.M. in the West Hill Cemetery with Rev. Tony Samples officiating.
Clem will be in state at the Coffman Funeral Home where the family will receive friends Sunday from 12:30 until 1:30 P.M. At other hours, the family may be contacted at their respective residences.
