Mr. James Monroe McNew

Mr. James Monroe McNew, age 87, of Mona Lane, Summerville, Georgia passed away at his home on Monday, December 6, 2021.

Mr. McNew was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee on September 18, 1934, son of the late Solomon (Tom) and Chester Matheny McNew.  He was raised in Lafayette, Georgia and would graduate from LaFayette High School in 1952. After a brief time at North Georgia Military College, where he excelled in Cross Country and Basketball, he would transfer to the University of Georgia and graduate in 1959 with a degree in Pharmacology. He was a practicing pharmacist for nearly 40 years. James was an active member of the National Guard for over 10 years, and his love for his country was only exceeded by his love for his Lord God and family. He was an active member of the Trion Evangelical Presbyterian Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife the late Mona Beavers McNew; sister Margaret McNew; brothers, Billy McNew, Robert Lee McNew and Joe McNew.

Mr. McNew is survived his sons and daughter-in-law, Brian and Joanna McNew and Bruce McNew; daughter-in-law Missy Jones (Will), step-sons, Brent Smith (Traci) and Brian Smith; step-daughter Michelle Smith; former wife and mother of his sons, Janice Hendrix; Grandchildren: Elliott Manning, Brianna McNew, Katie (Casey) Adams and Elijah McNew; Great grandchildren, Noah Adams, Ella Manning and Lincoln Adams, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Thursday December 9, 2021 at 1:00 P.M. in the Petitt Chapel of the Coffman Funeral Home with Dr. William Flannagan officiating.  Private Committal services will be held in the West Hill Cemetery.

There will be no formal visitation.

The family respectfully requests no food or flowersbe sent, but that donations be made to Trion Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Mr. McNew’s Memory.
