Mr. J.P. McClung, age 93 of Trion, Georgia passed away Friday, July 9, 2021 at his residence.

Mr. McClung was born in Cherokee County, Alabama on February 27, 1928, son of the late Henry McClung and Etta Mae Cochran McClung.  He was a member of the Fellowship Baptist Church and was retired from the weave room at Mt. Vernon Mills.  Following his retirement, he was a custodian at Trion High School for four years.  Mr. McClung was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during the Korean War.  While in the Army, he earned the Korean Service Medal with 3 Bronze Stars; the United Nations Service Medal and the National Defense Medal.  In addition to his parents, Mr. McClung was preceded in death by his first wife, Barbara McClung; second wife, Sue A. McClung; a sister, Louise Roach and a brother, H.M. McClung.

Mr. McClung is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Jackie and Teresa McClung; grandchildren, Heather McClung, Farrah Vineyard and Lindsay Patty; step grandson, Shane Cook; great grandchildren, Kaylee Tucker, Scarlett Patty, Greyson Patty, Chace Vineyard, Layla Vineyard, Blakley Martin, Steven Cook, Michael Cook and Jacob Cook; special friend, Maggie Tucker and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Mr. McClung will be held Sunday, July 11, 2021 at 6:00 P.M. in the Petitt Chapel of the Coffman Funeral Home with Rev. Wayne Pace officiating.  Interment will follow in the West Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Chace Vineyard, Greyson Patty, Jay Williams, Steven Cook, Shane Cook and Michael Cook.  Honorary Pallbearers will be Cliff Cordle and the Town of Trion Maintenance Department, the Quarter Century Club and Bear Blackmon.

Mr. McClung will be in state at the Coffman Funeral Home where the family will receive friends Sunday afternoon from 4:00 P.M. until the funeral hour.
