Mr. Dewey Lathan Brown, age 84, of Menlo, GA, died Saturday, September 11, 2021, at his residence surrounded by his family.

Mr. Brown was born May 2, 1937, in Summerville, GA, son of the late Elgin Dewey Brown and Connie Jewell Phillips Brown.  He was Baptist by faith and prior to his retirement, was employed with J.P. Smith Lumber Company.  He was a veteran of the United States Army where he attended Airborne School with the 11th Airborne Division.  He also served in the Federal Republic of Germany.  Mr. Brown was a devoted member of the Menlo Lions Club, served as a youth baseball coach, and was a leader and mentor with the Boy Scouts of America. 

In addition to his parents, Mr. Brown was preceded in death by his sister, Robin Brown; brother, Erick “Tom” Brown; son-in-law, Jeff Johnson; and special brother-in-law, Tom Ochs.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Ann Lloyd Brown; son, Timothy (Ginger) Brown; daughters, Tina (Robert “Bo”) Chapman, Michelle Johnson (Johnny Williamson); brothers, Doyle (Joyce) Brown, Gary (Shirley) Brown, Waldin Eugene Brown; a sister, Anise Ochs; 5 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, September 15, 2021, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jack Green officiating.  Interment will follow in Cloudland Presbyterian Church Cemetery.  Active pallbearers will be Bo Chapman, Johnny Williamson, Corey Johnson, Mark Bailey, Max Treadaway, Lamar Pledger, and Seborn Treadaway.  Honorary pallbearers will be Johnny Nelson, Justin Rose, Stacey Wooten, Chuck Harris, Jason Harris, and Erick Brown.

Mr. Brown will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. Tuesday.

Due to the current health concerns for the community, those in attendance are asked to keep in mind the current guidelines and restrictions set forth by the C.D.C. as it pertains to social gatherings including the use of face masks and hand sanitizer.
