Mr. David Lewis “Sleepy” Bruce, age 90 of Lafayette, passed away Friday, July 17, 2020 at the Shepherd Hills Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Mr. Bruce was born in Trion, Georgia on May 19, 1930, son of the late William Arthur Ross Bruce and Beatrice Ruby Brown Bruce. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Bruce was a member of the Ridgeway Baptist Church and was retired from the packing department of Mt. Vernon Mills. He was an avid fisherman and gardener, loved being outdoors, and loved to sing. In addition to his parents, Mr. Bruce was preceded in death by his first wife, Frances Irene Bruce; a son, Steve Bruce; granddaughter, Tabatha Wooten; and a brother, Lawrence Bruce.
Survivors include his wife, Brenda Bruce; daughters and sons-in-law, Christina and David Taylor; Lisa Watkins, and Jenny and Tate Kellett; sons and daughters-in-law, Wayne Bruce, Ricky and Denise Bruce, Donny and Janice Watkins and Dennis and Sonja Watkins; daughter-in-law, Rachel Bruce; sister and brother-in-law, Imojene and Herb Broyles; brother and sister-in-law, Leo and Wanda Bruce; 17 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
Private Funeral Services for the family will be held Monday, July 20, 2020 at 2:00 P.M. in the Ridgeway Baptist Church with Rev. Brett Sims and Bro. Michael Langford officiating. Interment will follow in the Ridgeway Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Chad Bruce, Josiah Bruce, Ross Bruce, Jonathan Bruce, J.T. Kellett, Ryan Wade and Dennis Watkins. Honorary Pallbearers will be the staff of Shepherd Hills Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Mr. Bruce will be in state at the Coffman Funeral Home where the family will receive friends Sunday afternoon from 4:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M.
