Mr. Charles Thomas “Tommy” Cox, age 66 of Summerville, passed away Wednesday, October 28, 2020 at his residence.
Mr. Cox was born in Rome, Georgia on June 16, 1954, son of Betty Jean Wells Lewis and the late Raymond Thomas Cox. He was a Fiber Optics Engineer and had attended the University of Georgia. He loved to travel and spend time with his family and was an avid Poker Player. In addition to his father, Mr. Cox was preceded in death by a brother, Terry Cox.
Mr. Cox is survived by a son, Charles Thomas “Chuck” Cox, Jr.; mother and stepfather, Betty Jean and James “Bo” Lewis; sister and brother-in-law, Sheila Joyce and Larry McGuire; grandsons, Charles Thomas “Chuck” Cox, III and Howard Seth Cox; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services for Mr. Cox will be held Monday, November 2, 2020 at 2:00 P.M. in the Petitt Chapel of the Coffman Funeral Home with Rev. Steve Collins officiating. Interment will follow in the Lyerly Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Chuck Cox, Seth Cox, Jason Kellett, Michael Butler, Jim Brady and Kevin Gilliland. Honorary Pallbearers will be Brad McGuire, Caleb McGuire, Matthew Cox, Leslie R. McGuire, Cheryl Bumgarner, Starla Cox and Sierra Cagle.
Mr. Cox will be in state at the Coffman Funeral Home where the family will receive friends Sunday afternoon from 4:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M.
The family of Mr. Cox and the staff of Coffman Funeral Home, advise anyone that plans to attend the services, to please follow the CDC recommendations as it pertains to Social distancing and social gatherings. Facemasks are not required, but are recommended.
