Dr. Steven Henry Pickern, age 66 of Summerville, passed away suddenly Wednesday, December 2, 2020 at the Redmond Regional Medical Center.

Dr. Pickern was born in O’Fallon, Illinois on May 5, 1954, son of the late Henry Pickern and Edna Dallas Pickern.  He was a former High School Teacher and Coach, having coached several sporting categories.  He loved to fish and play Golf.  Dr. Pickern had been a Baptist Minister for over 32 years and was presently serving as pastor of the Sonrise Community Church.  He was a past moderator of the Chattooga Baptist Association, where he also served on the Administrative Committee.  Dr. Pickern was also actively working on what he called the Soul Patrol, where his goal was to see a soul saved every day, and to date, he had met that goal with over 300 conversions this year.  He sent out daily devotions to his followers on Facebook, and was always there to encourage anyone in their time of need.  In addition to his parents, Dr. Pickern was preceded in death by a brother, Jeff Pickern.

Dr. Pickern is survived by his wife of 46 years, Alice Pickern; daughter and son-in-law, Jodi and Fredrick Finney; son, Dr. Jay Pickern; brothers and sister-in-law, Michael Pickern and Daniel and Ginger PIckern; grandchildren, Logan Pickern and Eli Pickern; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Dr. Pickern will be held Sunday, December 8, 2020 at 3:00 P.M. in the Sonrise Community Church with Rev. Barry Peppers, Mr. Tracy Espy and his brother, Danny Pickern officiating.  Interment will follow in the Subligna Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Eric Rosenbaum, Daryl Fagan, Logan Pickern, Eli Pickern, Hank Martin, Gary Roy, Fredrick Finney and Aven Campbell.  Honorary Pallbearers will be the Deacons of Sonrise Community Church.

Dr. Pickern will lie in state at the Sonrise Community Church Sunday afternoon, where the family will receive friends from 2:00 P.M. until the funeral hour.

The family of Dr. Pickern, as well as the staff of Coffman Funeral Home, advise anyone that plans to attend the services, to please follow the CDC recommendations as it pertains to Social distancing and social gatherings. Facemasks are not required, but are recommended.

The family respectfully asks that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Sonrise Community Church Building Fund, 141 W. Washington Street, Summerville, GA  30747.
