A nursing assistant has been arrested three months after her newborn was discovered dead on a pavement, with police alleging she threw the youngster out a second-floor window.
Emily Jane Dickinson, 20, and Joshua Coleman Wooters, 19, have been arrested in connection with the March death of their child in McConnellsburg, Pennsylvania, according to online court documents.
State police discovered the newborn boy on the street on March 11, soon before a coroner certified him dead. Troopers responded to a call regarding a slain newborn and discovered a garbage bag down the road containing a bleeding mattress, according to a complaint cited.
According to ABC 27, the coroner ruled that the youngster was less than 24 hours old.
The youngster died from “exsanguination from the umbilical stump,” according to a police complaint quoted by ABC 27.

Troopers discovered a placenta on the scene, according to the publication. Wooters denied knowledge of the matter multiple times during the investigation.
According to the lawsuit and reports from WGAL 8 and FOX 43, he later informed investigators that Dickinson severed the baby’s umbilical cord with a knife. Dickinson allegedly told police that she did not want any children and was unaware of her pregnancy until a few weeks before the child’s birth, according to charging paperwork, ABC 27 reports. According to investigators, when the infant was born in the restroom, she checked his pulse and realized he wasn’t moving.
According to the lawsuit, Dickinson allegedly stated after an undetermined period that she disposed of the infant and placenta because she “wasn’t thinking clearly.”
According to the complaint, Wooters informed authorities that Dickinson reportedly scooped up the newborn and hurled it out the window, according to PEOPLE.
Dickinson and Wooters have each been charged with criminal homicide, criminal homicide conspiracy, concealing a child’s death, and corpse abuse, according to online court documents.
According to court documents, Wooters has also been charged with obstruction of justice.
Court records show both were booked into jail on Tuesday, June 25, and are still held without bail. As of press time, court records did not have attorney or plea information for each.
