Officials from Americans for Prosperity, the conservative organization supported by billionaire Charles Koch, revealed on Sunday their decision to cease financial support for Nikki Haley’s presidential campaign.
This shift comes in the wake of the South Carolina GOP primary results, where Donald Trump emerged victorious over Haley in her home state.
Despite her defeat, Haley expressed her intention to persist with her campaign.
However, Americans for Prosperity Action, the organization’s super PAC, announced on Sunday its decision to discontinue allocating funds towards the presidential primary.
Instead, the focus will be redirected towards bolstering Republican candidates in lower-level elections.
Haley Presses Forward Despite Setback
This announcement followed former President Trump’s victory in the South Carolina GOP primary, which is Haley’s home state, on Saturday.
Despite the setback and disregarding calls to withdraw from the race, Haley asserted that it is not the “end of our story,” embarking on a journey to Michigan on Sunday in preparation for the state’s primary on Tuesday.
Trump emerged victorious in the GOP primaries held in Iowa, Nevada, New Hampshire, and the US Virgin Islands.
According to Federal Election Commission filings from January, substantial expenditures were made by both the Trump and Haley campaigns at the beginning of the year.
However, AFP’s shift in focus away from the presidential primary deals a significant blow to Haley.
She is facing challenges in the primaries and depends on support from donors contributing both substantial and modest amounts.
AFP Action Backs Haley with Grassroots Support
In November, AFP Action threw its support behind Haley, providing her with significant grassroots and organizational backing.
The financially robust, fiscally conservative network initiated an extensive advertising campaign on behalf of Haley in January, encompassing mailers, digital advertisements, and connected TV spots.
Having committed to investing tens of millions of dollars to propel the Republican Party beyond former President Trump, AFP Action declared last month its initial allocation of $27 million towards this latest phase of their ongoing initiative.
