Newport Beach Man Arrested for Murder of Acquaintance Found Dead With Trauma

On Monday, July 29, officials announced that a suspect was arrested on suspicion of murder in connection with the death of a 48-year-old man who was discovered dead inside an apartment in Newport Beach the previous week. The suspect is believed to be an associate of the victim.

Law enforcement officials visited a property on the 1200 block of Park Newport to conduct a wellness check on Friday, July 26. According to the authorities, the victim, identified as Reginald Hidalgo Fils from Newport Beach, was discovered dead inside the residence with visible indications of trauma.

During the investigation, Chino Hills resident Brandon Christian Chanman, who is 35 years old, was taken into custody, according to a statement released by the Newport Beach Police Department.

The police reported that Fils and Chanman were acquainted. There has been no disclosure of any other information regarding their relationship or the passing of Fils.
