Snow will fall over the Alps on Monday. Snow is likely in the valleys, although it will be limited and scattered. Many regions in the valleys may not receive any snow.
Monday’s Snowmaker
Low pressure and a cold front will arrive from the north and northwest tonight, passing through Colorado on Monday. It will bring some snow, although the majority of it will be concentrated in the mountains. This is unlikely to be a major storm system, even in the mountains.
Timing the Snow
Between 3 and 6 a.m. on Monday, snow will begin to fall over the mountains, including the Grand Mesa and the areas surrounding Aspen and Vail. Snowfall will progressively increase, primarily in the High Country, until midday. Travel over the high passes, particularly the Vail Pass, can be sluggish and difficult at times. Snowfall will also intensify from Montrose to the San Juans by lunchtime.
It won’t persist long in Montrose, perhaps only two or three hours. Grand Junction and Delta are more likely to miss the majority of the snow, with only brief intervals of snowfall and no considerable accumulation expected. By 6 p.m., our slim probability of snow has faded, and the snow above the mountains will begin to break up by midnight. The final snowfall in the High Country will fall between midnight and 6 a.m. on Tuesday.
Expected Snowfall Amounts
Snowfall will be confined to a dusting near Grand Junction, Delta, and Cortez. Montrose can reach a depth of around an inch, although it may be less. The Grand Mesa, Vail, Aspen, and Telluride can receive up to 2-5 inches of snowfall. Up to 5-10 inches of snow can fall on some of the High Country’s higher peaks, although this amount will be limited to the mountains.
Our Next 24 Hours
This evening will be largely clear. We’ll drop from the mid-to-upper 30s at 6 p.m. to the low-to-mid 30s at 8 p.m., then back to the upper and lower 30s by 10 p. The remainder of tonight will be largely clear to partly overcast by daybreak.
Low temperatures will hover around 26 degrees around Grand Junction, 21 degrees near Montrose, 22 degrees near Delta, 19 degrees near Cortez, and 24 degrees near Moab. Monday will be generally cloudy, with snow on the mountains and a small chance of patchy snow in the valleys. High temperatures will hover around 41 degrees near Grand Junction, 36 degrees near Montrose, 41 degrees near Delta, 42 degrees near Cortez, and 42 degrees near Moab.
Reference: Snowy spots possible Monday, but it will mostly stay in the mountains
