CHARLOTTE, N.C.– More than 60,000 Duke Energy customers are without power in the Carolinas as Tropical Storm Debby moves up the East Coast.
As of 7 a.m., Duke’s outage map reveals that the majority of outages are in central and eastern North Carolina, with approximately 25,000 customers without power in the Charlotte area.
Potential power outages were a major concern before to Debby’s arrival, prompting Duke to prepare plans and strategically situate linemen throughout the Carolinas and elsewhere in the southeast.
To prepare for any power outages, officials advise everyone to charge their devices and have functional flashlights and backup batteries. Refrigerators and freezers should not be opened during a power outage, and any downed lines should be treated as hot.
Real-time outage maps for all electricity companies in North and South Carolina are available here.
Along with inches of rain, Debby is anticipated to bring wind gusts of up to 40 mph to Charlotte.
