A Mississippi company that has been around for over 50 years has announced a $40 million expansion that will create 19 new employees. Gulf States Canners, a major supplier of canned and bottled products to Coca-Cola bottlers, is expanding its Clinton canning operation.
The company has been a member of the Clinton business community since 1972. The expansion will include updating the existing plant to increase efficiency and capacity, as well as the installation of a new PET bottle production line for Coca-Cola sparkling beverages and Dasani water bottles.
The project is projected to be completed in a year, with 19 new positions created over the next two years. Gulf States Canners employs 88 people at its Clinton factory.
The Mississippi Development Authority (MDA) is funding the project through its Mississippi Flexible Tax Incentive (MFLEX) program, and AccelerateMS, the City of Clinton, and the Hinds County Board of Supervisors are also contributing.
Governor Tate Reeves praised the expansion, saying, “Gulf States Canners has been a trusted corporate partner in Mississippi for over 50 years. This development creates new jobs and drives growth in Clinton, helping both local communities and the state.”
MDA Executive Director Bill Cork noted, “This corporate investment demonstrates the supportive business environment Mississippi provides, allowing companies such as Gulf States Canners to thrive.” Gulf States Canners General Manager Mark Shorter praised the company’s commitment to the Clinton community and its economy.
“By modernizing our facility and adding a new production line, we are not only increasing operational efficiency but also creating job opportunities that will benefit the local economy.”
The expansion is a collaborative endeavor involving local government, Entergy, and other commercial partners, and local authorities are excited about the project’s good influence on the regional economy.
