A one-year-old “miracle baby” survived after his four-year-old brother was discovered dead and their mother was arrested.
Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched on Tuesday, July 9, at around 9 a.m. local time, after a bystander noticed an infant in a ditch on I-10 westbound near mile marker 10 in Vinton, Louisiana, according to a news release shared on Facebook.
Police had been searching for the 1-year-old after his 4-year-old brother’s death was discovered in the water near the Vinton Welcome Center on Monday, July 8, according to the release.
Detectives were told that the youngster had last been seen on Saturday, July 6, with his mother, Aaliyah N. Jack, 25, of Lake Charles.
Jack’s relatives were “located in Mississippi, without the 1-year-old, by the Meridian Police Department and taken into custody,” reports said. She was accused with failing to report a missing child, and Judge Tony Fazzio imposed a $300,000 warrant bond.

In a press conference on July 9, Calcasieu Parish Sheriff Gary “Stitch” Guillory said of the kid that was found, “We looked at this 1-year-old as our miracle baby because he was still alive… unbelievable,” according to an Associated Press video.
“This kid spent two days out in the elements on the side of the highway,” an emotional Guillory said, adding, “Thank God that trucker saw him.”
Guillory stated that the 1-year-old had many bug bites but otherwise appeared to be fine, according to the AP.
According to the press release, the baby was transferred to a local hospital and is in stable condition. “This is a tragic incident that our detectives are currently investigating,” Guillory said in the news release. “Fortunately, we were able to locate the 1-year-old, who was transferred to a nearby hospital to be examined. He is currently secure and under the protection of authorities. We recognize the community’s concern and are determined to ensure justice for the children involved.”
