Nearly two weeks after a three-year-old Minnesota boy and his mother were bitten by two dogs, the kid’s heart was donated to another youngster.
Covil Allen of Brooklyn Park, Minn., and his mother Tasha were attacked by two dogs on Friday, July 19, and the injuries he sustained were fatal. As a result, the family chose to donate his organs.
They now claim on GoFundMe that his heart has been donated to a one-year-old girl.
Lindsey Hemmerich, a family friend, stated in an update on Tuesday, July 30, “This is the most beautiful thing to come from this tragedy and we couldn’t be happier that his heart was able to save someone.”
The report also says that Covil’s liver did not “fit the child on the list.”
According to the fundraising, the Allen family worked with Life Source, an organ procurement agency, to donate Covil’s organs. “This will honor Covil’s life and save more children’s lives in hopes that no other parent has to endure the pain they are experiencing right now,” Hemmerich said on the 24th.
Following the attack, both Covil and his mother had serious injuries; a previous report claimed that Tasha had three surgeries and would require several skin grafts. According to Fox 9, Covil and his mother were in the backyard of a Brooklyn Park home with his older brother Christian to adopt a dog when the puppy’s parents assaulted him.
During the attack, Tasha and Christian were reportedly playing with a puppy while Covil was nearby. Tasha heard her son scream and went to extricate him from the attack, along with the dog owner. Covil’s father told the newspaper that the dogs were American Bulldogs.
According to WCOO-TV, when the dogs attacked Covil, the adults allegedly defended him “using hammers and pick axes to get the dogs off,” claiming a search warrant.
According to PEOPLE, Brooklyn Park police responded to the incident and “discharged their service weapons,” striking both dogs. One perished, while the other sustained injuries.
