Police say a man charged with fatally shooting his neighbor in Canton Township last month is being probed for another killing in Indiana.
A spokeswoman from the Canton Police Department told CBS News Detroit, “I can confirm that we are aware of this non-fatal freeway shooting in Indiana and we’re assisting the Indiana State Police with their investigation.”
Devereaux Johnson is currently charged with murder in the death of 35-year-old Nathan Morris. According to police, Johnson reportedly shot Morris after a fight on August 11.
Johnson’s neighbors claimed they were not startled by the probable second shooting.
“Scary, yes. “Not surprising,” Steve Glaspie stated. “I live close enough to him that I can hear him inside his garage, talking loudly. He was quite up and down about his feelings, and I had several run-ins with him.
Glaspie told CBS News Detroit that several other neighbors have had run-ins with Johnson over the years. And, while they are not surprised, they wish more had been done to prevent the fatal shooting in their community.
“It’s easy to say that after the fact in hindsight, just be a little more aware,” advised Glaspie. “If a tragedy can be prevented then I’m all for it.”
CBS News Detroit reached out to the Indiana State Police for an update on its case, but we have yet to hear back.
