Michigan –In a terrifying case in Michigan, 41-year-old A. Aboukhodr is facing significant charges for allegedly subjecting his pregnant wife to extreme physical violence after she refused to give him her passcodes. Following his arraignment, prosecutors accused Aboukhodr of domestic violence, torture, and wrongful confinement, emphasizing the gravity of the allegations against him.
During a tense 18-hour encounter that began on July 14, Aboukhodr is accused of repeatedly abusing his 22-year-old wife. The prosecution alleges that the abuse included striking her with a belt, pulling her upstairs, punching her, and slamming her to the ground. During the assault, the woman began bleeding, and Aboukhodr allegedly told her she “didn’t even deserve his child.”
The situation worsened when the victim was able to reach her mother, who promptly phoned the police, giving her a small reprieve from the continued violence.
The violence did not stop with the original incident. Just one week later, on July 21, Aboukhodr allegedly assaulted his wife again as she attempted to leave the house, aggravating her already precarious position.
S. Vincent, the arraignment prosecutor, explained how Aboukhodr strangled her as she tried to quit the relationship and leave the house, emphasizing the defendant’s inability to accept her decision. Eventually, the victim was able to flee and seek assistance at a neighbor’s house, likely saving her from more injury.
During the arraignment, which was broadcast by NBC affiliate WDIV, defense attorney H. Hamade stated that Aboukhodr had no prior criminal record and emphasized that these are allegations at this time. He commented on the gravity of the narrative but reminded the court that the facts must still be verified by legal means.
Hamade further stated that Aboukhodr had not yet been interviewed by a police investigator and that the alleged victim had expressed a desire not to press charges, but the prosecutor claimed that she was afraid for her life. Despite these statements, the severity of the allegations affected the judge’s decision to impose a hefty bond of $350,000.
Aboukhodr is still in detention in the county jail. The claims of torture and wrongful confinement are especially concerning considering the victim’s precarious situation as a pregnant woman.
