A tragic incident has occurred in Manitoba, where a father has been charged with five counts of first-degree murder. The victims include his young children, including a two-month-old daughter, their mother, and a teenage relative.

The details were revealed during an RCMP news conference on Monday. Premier Wab Kinew expressed deep emotion as he discussed the tragic loss of an entire family, describing it as a somber period for the province.

Kinew shared his personal experiences during the news conference, describing the joy of holding an infant, the warmth of grasping a young child’s hand, the anticipation of a teen preparing for a graduation ceremony, and the happiness of sharing a laugh with his wife at the end of the day.

“I believe individuals from various backgrounds, residing in all regions of this province, grasp the significance of these bonds, as they hold a special place,” Kinew expressed during a press conference in Winnipeg.

“And this is a challenging period for us at the moment as these cherished connections have been severed in our province.”

A tragic incident unfolded as Ryan Howard Manoakeesick, 29, faced charges in connection with the devastating loss of his 30-year-old common-law partner, their six-year-old daughter, four-year-old son, infant daughter, and the mother’s 17-year-old niece. The names of the victims were not released by the police.

RCMP Insp. Tim Arseneault expressed deep sorrow over the devastating loss of an entire family. Five individuals tragically lost their lives on Sunday in various crime scenes located in and around Carman, which is approximately 85 kilometers southwest of Winnipeg.

The investigation started when authorities responded to a location near a small town early on Sunday morning regarding a hit-and-run incident on Highway 3. A tragic discovery was made as the lifeless body of the children’s mother was found in a ditch.

After more than two hours, and 70 kilometers to the north, officers received a call about a vehicle on fire. According to witnesses, Manoakeesick was observed rescuing the three children from the vehicle, as stated by the RCMP.

The children were declared deceased and law enforcement apprehended Manoakeesick at the location. After conducting a thorough investigation, law enforcement officers discovered the deceased teenager’s body at a residence in Carman.

Police tape cordoned off the front and backyard of the family’s white bungalow in Carman, creating a barrier around the residence where the suspect and the five victims resided.

Forensic crews were observed entering and exiting the scene. There were police vehicles stationed both in front of and behind the house. Toys and a bike were scattered across the lawn.

Randy McFarlane, a neighbor who lives a few houses down, mentioned that the home is a rental property. According to him, the family had been residing in the house in the peaceful neighborhood for over a year.

“It’s quite unusual to hear something like that in this area, and it’s not something you would expect to happen right next door,” McFarlane commented. According to McFarlane, the children would frequently play in the yard and he never had any interactions with the mother.

Every now and then, he would hear her raising her voice while talking on her cellphone, and he couldn’t help but feel that something was not quite right. According to Carman Mayor Brent Owen, the entire community has been deeply impacted by the tragic event.

Although he was acquainted with approximately 80 percent of the town’s residents, he did not have a personal connection with those who passed away. “It’s truly horrifying,” he said.

Crisis response teams have been established for Carman Collegiate and Ecole Carman elementary school, according to the Prairie Rose School Division. The local United Church welcomed individuals to come and pray inside its open doors.

The police are still working to determine the sequence of events leading to the deaths, as autopsies have been scheduled, according to Arseneault.
