CLEVELAND — A man was struck and killed by one of the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority’s trains on Monday afternoon in the West Park neighborhood of Cleveland, according to the statements made by the authority.

A report from the RTA indicates that the event took place in the Jefferson area between the Triskett and West Park stations at approximately three o’clock in the afternoon. A Red Line Rapid train traveling in the westbound direction collided with a person on the tracks, and the subject was pronounced deceased a few minutes later.

Unfortunately, at this time, the identity of the victim is unknown. Transit police moved 21 passengers from the location to West Park so that they could continue their journey.

The railcar had halted at the spot. Until further notice, all eastbound and westbound trains between Puritas and West Boulevard-Cudell are being replaced with RTA 66R buses. This is because the Red Line is now closed on that stretch of track, as stated by the officials.

“Passenger and rail safety continues to be a priority of our operations; we will continue to provide updates as available,” the RTA stated in a statement released yesterday. Police from the Transit Department are looking into the issue.
