An Indiana man confesses to poisoning his wife for months to kill her and marry her daughter.

Alfred Ruf, 71, was sentenced this week after pleading guilty to aggravated abuse with a danger of death in connection with the 2021 poisonings that put his wife to the hospital numerous times, according to the Kansas City Star, Local 12, and FOX 59.

The investigation into Ruf began in 2022, when his wife, 51-year-old Lisa Bishop, reported him to police, claiming he was attempting to poison her, according to police reports published by the Kansas City Star and the Palladium-Item.

According to the prosecution documents, she suffered from “unexplained headaches, drowsiness, diarrhea, and more” as a result of the poisoning. The woman then tested positive for many substances, including MDMA and cocaine, which she said she did not intentionally consume.

Rus first admitted to her that he had been poisoning her soft drinks, according to the arrest document quoted by the Palladium-Item. Bishop then discovered a powdery material in cans of Coca-Cola.

Rus acknowledged to authorities that he poisoned his wife to marry her daughter, according to prosecutors, WRBL said.

He reportedly told investigators that two other women, including Bishop’s daughter, were involved in the operation, according to the Palladium-Item, Local 12, and FOX 59.

He also claimed to be in a sexual connection with Bishop’s 31-year-old daughter, according to the affidavit, USA Today said.

According to police sources from WRBL, Palladium-Item, and Local 12, he told investigators that his daughter gave him the poison and devised the plan to assassinate Bishop. According to the arrest document, it was not immediately known whether that daughter had been charged with these charges.
According to court documents, Rus will serve four years in prison and five years on probation.
