MAN KILLS DAUGHTER, GIRLFRIEND, TWO FRIENDS, THEN HIMSELF in Battleboro Shooting: Sheriff

BATTLEBORO, N.C. – On Sunday, a man shot his 6-year-old daughter, girlfriend, and two friends before killing himself, according to the Wilson County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies said Daquan Marcato Jones, 32, of Rocky Mount, shot his girlfriend, Kiera Massenburg, 27, their child, Zoey Jones, 6, and two friends before dawn at a residence on Weavers Circle in Sharpsburg.

Around 5 a.m. on Sunday, Sharpsburg Police Department deputies and officers were dispatched to the home, where they discovered Makyah Page, 27, and Devonte Ricks, 30, both with gunshot wounds. The pair, identified as Jones and Massenburg’s friends, were transported to Vidant Hospital for treatment of their injuries.

According to investigators, Jones, who was dating Massenburg, shot the four victims before driving away with his girlfriend and their daughter, Zoey.

Deputies stated he dropped the girl off at another location before driving Massenburg to a friend’s house on Jamie Road in Nash County.

Nash County deputies arrived at the home on Jamie Road and discovered Massenburg dead in the backseat of Jones’ automobile.

A shot rang out, and deputies discovered Jones dead in his bedroom from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot. Investigators suspect Jones murdered Massenburg and then himself.

According to Nash County Sheriff Keith Stone, Jones shot himself after seeing deputies drive up in front of the house. The bullet penetrated the wall. EMS workers discovered the 6-year-old girl with gunshot wounds at a home on Leigh Road.

The small girl is struggling for her life, but Page and Ricks are likely to live, according to the sheriff’s office.

Shaun Alston, Jones’ friend, said he heard Jones move inside his Jamie Road home before gunshots went out.

“It’s like a Lifetime movie,” Alston recalled, explaining he heard, “‘Pow… pow,’ and police said ‘Get down!'” “Get down!” According to a court record obtained by WRAL News, Jones was charged with felony assault in Edgecombe County in July. According to a police report from the Rocky Mount Police Department, Jones hit Massenburg in the face, knocking out her teeth and breaking her nose.

Previously, in November, Jones was arrested in Rocky Mount and charged with disorderly conduct, resisting a public officer, and conveying threats against Massenburg.

Alston claimed to WRAL News he had been friends with Jones and his girlfriend for many years. He was at home when Jones shot himself, and cops raced inside.
