A judge sentenced a 21-year-old guy to nearly 14 years in jail for causing a tragic automobile accident while fleeing police officers in Robbinsdale last year.
Quintin Hudson pleaded guilty to one count of fleeing a peace officer resulting in death and one count of fleeing a peace officer causing serious bodily harm in connection with the July 8, 2023 crash.
Hudson killed 34-year-old Emily Gerding and badly injured her husband, John Gerding. They both taught special education at Coon Rapids Middle School and had two children together.
According to the charges, Hudson “rapidly accelerated” to speeds ranging from 70 to 90 mph after a Robbinsdale police officer attempted to stop him. The officer turned off his lights and sirens but then saw Hudson “fail to stop” at a stop sign on Orchard and 36th avenues.
Hudson drove straight through the intersection at high speed, colliding with Emily Gerding’s minivan. According to the complaint, John Gerding sustained “traumatic brain injury and brain bleeding.” According to family members, he had a broken wrist, collar bone, and leg, as well as swelling in his brain.
“My thoughts are with Emily’s family, especially her husband, John, and their children,” Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty stated. ”
While Emily’s family is the most directly affected by this tragedy, our entire community is also suffering. Mr. Hudson’s reckless conduct claimed one life and impacted countless others. This penalty holds him accountable and protects our community.
