In Maine, the distribution of benefits occurs between January 10 and January 14, with the specific payment date determined by the recipient’s date of birth.

Recipients born on days ending in 0, 1, 8, and 9 should have received their benefits by Thursday.

Those born on days ending in 2 or 3 are scheduled to collect on Friday, while individuals born on days ending in 4 or 7 will collect on Saturday.

Recipients with birthdays ending in 5 or 6 will see their monthly benefits on Sunday.

Maximum Monthly Benefits

The maximum monthly benefits vary based on household size, with a single-person household eligible for up to $291, a household of five eligible for a maximum of $1,155, and a household of eight eligible for a maximum of $1,751.

Additional individuals beyond eight in a household can receive a maximum of $219 each.

These figures are determined by recent cost-of-living adjustments for the period of 2023-24.

These monthly payments are loaded onto an electronic benefit transfer card, enabling recipients to make purchases at grocery stores for eligible food items such as fruits, vegetables, bread, meat, poultry, and beverages.

It’s important to note that SNAP benefits cannot be used for non-food items like pet food, alcohol, and household products such as paper and soap.

In the state of Maine, approximately 161,800 individuals, constituting roughly 12% of the population, receive SNAP benefits, according to data from the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities.
