A woman from Louisiana has been taken into custody on allegations that she threw her son, who was only six months old at the time, into a garbage can during a disagreement that occurred at Walmart.

In addition to being charged with a felony crime of cruelty to kids, Brionka Benjamin, who is 38 years old, was arrested and charged with a misdemeanor count of simple violence.

On Saturday, June 22, at approximately 3:30 p.m., law enforcement was dispatched to the Walmart in Eunice because there was a “fight in progress” within the store. The brawl had already come to an end by the time the officers arrived. After reviewing the video security footage from the store, the officers decided to investigate the allegations that Benjamin had thrown her son into the garbage can before punching another individual.

According to statements made by the Chief of Police of Eunice, Kyle LeBouef, to PEOPLE, “It was a verbal altercation, to begin with, and it turned into a physical altercation.” After reviewing the video surveillance footage, we were finally able to figure out what had taken place.

Benjamin claims that she “suddenly turned and tossed the baby into the trashcan and started fighting with them” after she went into an argument while she was holding her kid. He claims that she then began fighting with them.

According to PEOPLE, the suspect is said to have committed the act of throwing her son into the garbage “so that she could free both of her hands so that she could fight.”

He tells me, “You have no idea what is contained within that.” “There is a possibility that there is shattered glass.”

According to him, the infant did not sustain any injuries.

There is no explanation for why the fight took place. At this point, LeBouef continues, “We have different stories.” The situation escalated from there on out after one of them stated that they did not like the way the other one looked at her.

The status of Benjamin’s pleas and whether or if he has obtained legal representation is not immediately evident.
