The individuals who had been missing after an avalanche at Lee Canyon ski resort near Las Vegas on Monday afternoon have been located and are safe and in good health.

According to reports, the snow accumulation is quite significant due to the heavy snowfall that occurred overnight and continued into mid-morning.

A user shared their experience of the challenges faced during the recovery efforts due to the heavy snowfall, which made plowing the area extremely difficult. 

Initially, four individuals were reported missing. All individuals have been accounted for and are out of harm’s way. The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department tweeted that they are currently assisting people off the mountain.

According to Clark County, the avalanche caused the closure of roads SR 156 and 157 on Monday afternoon.

Lee Canyon is currently unable to be plowed due to the significant snow depth. Additionally, there has been a reported avalanche at the ski hill.

“There are five individuals who are currently unaccounted for NHP is at the scene. The bowl around Sherwood collapsed… The snowfall became increasingly intense around 10:30, 11 o’clock. Moisture covers the previously dry surfaces after a night of precipitation,” Mt Charleston Mountain Man initially tweeted. 

The ski resort is located approximately 50 miles away from the bustling city of Las Vegas, making it easily accessible within an hour’s drive. It is strongly advised that the public refrain from entering the area until the weather and conditions improve. 

As per the latest update from the Las Vegas Review-Journal, the canyon has experienced a significant amount of snowfall in the past 24 hours, with a total of 11.5 inches. Over the course of the last week, the snow accumulation has reached an impressive 31.5 inches.
