An elevated pattern of criminal behavior that was affecting the Indian Lakes area in Coarsegold was brought to the attention of the Sheriff’s Office in March of this year. Thefts of all kinds, including vandalism and thefts from motor vehicles, were among the crimes carried out. In addition, there was a single incident of a motor vehicle being stolen.
It was assigned to the Special Enforcement Team (SET) of the Madera Sheriff’s Department to conduct an investigation into these instances. During the preliminary stages of the investigation, it became abundantly evident that these instances were actually the result of a particular group of individuals, the majority of whom were youngsters.
During the course of the investigation, SET Deputies carried out a number of interviews and served eight search warrants. In the end, they were able to track down six persons who were involved for a variety of crimes that occurred in the Indian Lake community. During the execution of one of the search warrants, the deputies found evidence that connected several members of the group to a horrific assault that had also taken place in Madera County.
The six people who were taken into custody as part of this investigation are facing a variety of crimes, including theft of access cards, possession of stolen property, assault with force likely to inflict grave bodily injury, grand theft, and auto theft. On Wednesday, June 5, 2024, the investigation came to a conclusion with the final arrest to be made.
All six people who were taken into custody in connection with this investigation are minors. Only Travis Carroll, age 18 and from Coarsegold, was taken into custody as an adult. There has been a transfer of responsibility for the prosecution of the case to the District Attorney.
