The man who was sentenced to jail for the murder of his estranged wife in front of their two young children in Illinois because he was enraged by the fact that she intended to file a protection order against him has been found guilty.
After being found guilty of first-degree murder in connection with the shooting death of his wife Yahaira in 2022, Timothy Gordon, who is 48 years old, was given a sentence of fifty years in prison, according to a news statement issued by the Kane County State’s Attorney Jamie L. Mosser on July 19.
According to the release, according to Judge Clint Hull, who believed that Gordon had “executed” his wife, Gordon’s sentence was upgraded to life in prison without the possibility of parole. This occurred after Judge Hull imposed the maximum punishment for a weapons enhancement.
On October 31, 2022, Gordon became “upset” after learning that Yahaira was contemplating whether or not to file a protective order against him, according to the testimony of the prosecutors. Yahaira had filed for divorce six weeks previously, and she was allowing Gordon to reside in the basement of their home in Montgomery, Illinois. At the same time, she lived on the second level with her mother, aunt, and four children. Gordon was living in the basement.
According to the prosecution, Gordon forced his way into a bedroom located on the second floor that was occupied by Yahaira, her mother, her aunt, and two children, respectively ages 2 and 7. By the prosecution’s account, he approached Yahaira, positioned a firearm next to her left temple, and fired a single shot. According to them, Yahaira was murdered instantly by the gunfire.
Prosecutors claim that Yahaira recorded a video on her cellphone at the moment of the shooting because she was afraid of having a “confrontation” with Gordon. At the time of Yahaira’s murder, Gordon was not only on parole for unauthorized possession of a firearm by a felon, but he also had a criminal past, according to the accusations made by the prosecution. Gordon’s criminal history extends back to as early as 1994, according to the authorities, and is comprised of convictions for armed violence and robbery, as well as convictions for aggravated battery with a firearm and aggravated driving under the influence.
