A deer hunter discovered bone remains on private land in the city of Two Rivers, Wisconsin, on Saturday, according to authorities, who declined to confirm whether this is related to the continuing search for missing kid Elijah Vue.

“This is an ongoing investigation, and we are unable to provide specific information regarding the race, sex, or age of the remains,” Manitowoc County Sheriff Dan Hartwig stated in a statement, acknowledging the context of the finding. “Determining the identity will be a lengthy process.”

Elijah, who went missing at the age of three in February, was meant to be in the care of Jesse Vang, 39. According to The Herald Times Reporter, Vang, the child’s mother’s boyfriend, allegedly told cops that he last saw Elijah at 8 a.m. on Feb. 20 and instructed him to pray as punishment. He claimed to have fallen asleep and awoke about three hours later to discover that the three-year-old was gone.

Elijah’s mother, Katrina Baur, 31, allegedly placed him in Vang’s care for disciplinary reasons and lied about her whereabouts during the search.

“She intentionally sent that child to the residence for disciplinary purposes for more than a week,” Manitowoc District Attorney Jacalyn LaBre told Green Bay Fox affiliate WLUK in February. “She was aware of the tactics utilized and the lack of care given. This was intentional on her part. And, at least twice during the interviews, she supplied inaccurate information regarding her whereabouts during the last week.”

She and Vang are now facing felony child neglect charges, although authorities have yet to determine Elijah’s whereabouts. He would have turned four on August 25.

“Elijah is described as having Hmong and white ethnicity with dark blonde hair and brown eyes,” they’ve stated. “He was last seen wearing gray pants, a long-sleeved dark shirt, and red and green dinosaur shoes.” He may be carrying a red and white plaid blanket, as shown in the picture.
