Houston Teacher Charged With Child Endangerment After Allegedly Locking Daughter Out Overnight

HOUSTON, Texas – The 12-year-old daughter of a woman, identified in court filings as a Houston Independent School District teacher, walked to a police station and told detectives that her mother had locked her out of her apartment overnight, according to the Houston Police Department.

HPD disclosed new information after court documents revealed that authorities charged 43-year-old Georgette Albert with child endangerment, stating she “unlawfully, intentionally, and knowingly” placed a child under the age of 15 in “imminent danger of bodily injury.”

According to the records, the alleged offense occurred on August 31, and Albert was detained by Houston police the next morning, September 1. According to HPD, Albert and her daughter disagreed before the parent locked her out of their apartment on East Houston Road.

Last Saturday, at 7:10 a.m., the daughter walked half a mile to the Northeast Patrol Station after sleeping on a bench all night.

Police responded to the apartment complex and notified Child Protective Services. According to police, the mother said her daughter had fled.

Police reported that another family member seized care of the daughter.

An affidavit of financial situation attached to the charge paperwork indicated that the 43-year-old has four children and has been with HISD for roughly a year. Eyewitness News contacted district authorities to confirm Albert’s employment status, including her location and job duties.

Albert’s charge was filed in the 180th District Court.
