A Florida man was taken into custody over the weekend after authorities claimed he hung and threw a toddler headfirst from a second-floor hotel balcony in Daytona Beach.
According to the Daytona Beach Police Department, Brandon Gilmore, 31, is facing an aggravated child abuse charge following the incident at the Sandalwood Resort on Saturday afternoon.
According to an arrest affidavit acquired by Fox News Digital, authorities were notified of a trauma scenario at the Sandlewood Resort on Saturday afternoon.
Gilmore told police that he met a woman at a hotel pool five hours before the incident.
According to the arrest document, Gilmore stated that the woman welcomed him into her room, where he requested permission to take her son outdoors to play with him and “scare him a little bit.”
Gilmore then went outside the hotel room, grabbed the youngster by the legs, and dangled him over the balcony, according to authorities.
Witnesses confirmed that the youngster was dangled and that they heard him cry before being tossed headfirst from the two-story balcony, according to the arrest complaint.
According to the complaint, Gilmore and the woman had spent the entire day drinking at the pool.
Police said video surveillance captured the incident and verified witness testimony and Gilmore’s account.
“The child is doing fine, has been discharged from the hospital, and is not expected to have any long-term health issues as a result of this tragic event,” a Daytona Police Department official told Fox News Digital.
The affidavit did not state the child’s age.
According to online jail records, Gilmore is still in detention at the Volusia County Jail without bond.
