A federal grand jury indicted a Guatemalan man on Wednesday after he was accused of kidnapping a girl in New Jersey and then transporting her to Georgia to sexually assault her. The allegations against the Guatemalan man were made public on Wednesday.
Sergio Gomez, also known as “Abner Abigail Chub-Choc,” was charged with kidnapping, seduction of a juvenile to engage in sexual behavior, and transportation of a minor to participate in sexual activity, according to an announcement made by the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of New Jersey on Thursday.
The investigators claim that Gomez used the internet and a cellphone to encourage the girl, who was 14 years old at the time, to meet him for sexual activity. By the time he arrived in Cape May County on July 30, 2023, he had already taken the girl with him to Georgia, according to the office.
At 1:30 p.m. on the next day, the girl was reported missing from Middle Township, which prompted a search that included the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and police from Georgia, according to the Police Department.
According to officials, the FBI discovered the girl in Georgia on August 3 without any injuries.
Gomez and another man were taken into custody by law enforcement in Acworth, Georgia. Two felonies of the second degree were brought against the two men: one was for luring the youngster, and the other was for conspiring to lure a minor.
The identity of the other individual, Yester R. Montecillos-Vazquez, was revealed by the police in the previous year, although federal prosecutors did not name him. A conspiracy to lure a child and luring the youngster were two additional charges that were brought against him at the time. It was not immediately clear what his present legal status was either.
