A rare sphynx cat was given up this month and is now looking for a fur-ever home at Rags to Riches Animal Rescue in Tampa, Florida.
About three years ago, Lilo the Sphynx was bought in Hawaii as a kitten. From what Rags to Riches Animal Rescue hears, the owner got a service dog that didn’t get along with her, so she had to sell her favorite pet.
The person who bought Lilo ended up giving her up to the Tampa shelter on December 19, 2023, because she didn’t get along with her other cats and would swat them and pee outside the litter box to show her displeasure. Lilo has a history of being scared around other animals, but her former owners say she is very sweet and cuddly.
This means Lilo has had a few homes in the last few years, so she will need a very patient new owner, says Rags to Riches Animal Rescue staff. “We want her to go with someone who understands the needs of the breed, especially a special case like Lilo who has some behavior issues.”
According to shelter staff members, Lilo will receive deworming and vaccinations in time to find her ideal home, and she would do best at home alone. Nevertheless, Rags to Riches intends to observe her behavior during her time in their care to determine whether it improves.
It is recommended that individuals who are intrigued by Lilo or wish to arrange a meeting with her contact Rags to Riches Animal Rescue at (813) 695-5473.
