A Fresno man was sentenced Monday for raping a kid while out on bail after attempting to coerce one, according to the US Department of Justice. Christopher Contreras, 36, was sentenced to 15 years and nine months in jail for coercion and attempted coercion of minors, authorities announced in a news release.

He was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Jennifer L. Thurston and will have to register as a sex offender when he leaves prison, according to prosecutors. He will also be required to remain under monitoring for 20 years. According to authorities, he was initially arrested on July 31, 2020, after attempting to meet a 13-year-old for sex using apps such as Skout and Snapchat. The child was an undercover agent.

Contreras was detained after going to a place in Fresno to meet what he thought was the minor. Prosecutors said he then escaped from Fresno County Jail in less than 24 hours.

According to fresnobee, while on bail, he successfully forced a youngster to meet with him on October 13, 2020, and raped the 15-year-old. Contreras was arrested at his house, and deputies seized many of his personal devices.
