Fort Worth Holiday Schedule: What’s Open and Closed on Christmas and New Year’s Day

Most City offices, including City Hall, will be closed on Christmas Day. As usual, emergency assistance will be accessible.

On Christmas and New Year’s Day, there will be no solid waste collections (garbage, recycling, yard trash, or bulk). From December 25 to January 6, collection schedules will be temporarily adjusted.

  • If your usual pickup day is Monday, your pickup will be moved to Tuesday; Tuesday collections will be moved to Wednesday; Wednesday collections will be moved to Thursday; Thursday collections will be moved to Friday; and Friday collections will be moved to Saturday.
  • Bulk garbage pickups will resume on Tuesday.
  • Collection schedules will resume on Monday, January 8.
  • On the first pickup day after a holiday, all households are permitted two additional bags of garbage next to the cart.

The four drop-off locations and the Environmental Collection Center will be closed on December 25 and reopened on December 26. These sites will be closed on New Year’s Day and will reopen on January 2.

On December 24, the North Animal Campus and the Chuck & Brenda Silcox Animal Care & Adoption Center will be available for adoptions from noon to 6 p.m. and intakes from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. They will be closed on December 25.

  • Normal activities will resume on December 26.
  • On December 24, both the Hulen and Alliance PetSmart Adoption Centers will be open from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. They will be closed on Christmas Day and open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on December 26.

The Fort Worth Public Library will be closed on December 24 and 25.

All community centers, the Haws Athletic Center, FW@6 activities, Log Cabin Village, and the Fort Worth Nature Center & Refuge will be closed on December 25. The Water Gardens’ water features will be switched off. On Christmas Day, all municipal golf courses will be closed. All municipal golf courses will resume regular operating hours on December 26.

Call the Water Department’s 24-hour call center at 817-392-4477 to use the automated system for payments and account questions, or to report an emergency.
