A Florida woman who became pregnant while a prisoner in a Miami jail gave birth to a daughter in June, but her family is still waiting for answers about how the pregnancy occurred.
Daisy Link, 29, is charged with second-degree murder for allegedly killing her husband in 2022. However, she informed her family over the phone last Christmas that she had been pregnant while a prisoner at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center. She said that a male convict slid a glove containing sperm via an air conditioning vent, resulting in her pregnancy.
Link then told her family that she had been sexually attacked, but subsequently informed her lawyer that this was not the case.
Her sister, Crystal Bareto, told Miami ABC station WVSN that Link gave birth to the girl in June.
“The baby was born June 19th and 48 hours [later], they handed the baby over to an inmate’s mother,” she told me. “We don’t even know if that’s the real family.”
The Miami-Dade Corrections and Rehabilitation Department is investigating. It was previously said that there was no proof of sexual assault. WSVN reported that the probe is underway.
Bareto believes an outside organization should review the jail, calling the entire situation “absurd.”
“We never really got the real, true story about what happened to her in there,” Bareto reported to WVSN. “And I feel like as time passed, the investigation, the story of what happened to my sister has been swept under the rug.”
She believes the government is taking its heels on the probe because it might lead to staff action, including termination.
Link reportedly shot her husband in the leg outside their Homestead house on June 25, 2022.
