Cops investigating a home invasion at a Florida Airbnb discovered a drug house containing more than 100 pounds of marijuana and nearly $30,000 in cash, according to cops.
According to court records, the two persons who rented the Airbnb in Miami are now facing criminal charges, as are the three men who robbed them. The renters, 33-year-old Robert Rincon and 43-year-old Johnny Guzman are charged with attempted cannabis trafficking, owning/renting a residence used to traffic banned narcotics, and money laundering. They’ve since bonded out of jail.
The suspected robbers, Tijhani Brown, 22, Rasambessa Johnson, 23, and Jamouri Sawyer, 28, are charged with armed robbery, burglary, assault and kidnapping. They stay at Miami-Dade Corrections and Rehabilitation.
Local NBC station WTVJ got arrest documents outlining the sequence of events.
The incident took place around 12:45 a.m. Thursday at a home near Southwest 5th Street and Southwest 58th Street. The home’s owner reportedly watched the renters being robbed through the video system and notified authorities. When authorities arrived, they discovered two males who claimed they were victims of an armed robbery. However, when investigators investigated the house, they discovered no robbers but a “huge amount” of drugs, prosecutors claimed.
According to the papers, detectives discovered 113 pounds of cannabis in vacuum-sealed trash bags and $29,850 in cash.
“One hundred thirteen pounds of cannabis sounds like a huge amount that it would be one of those things where if it is physically in the same building as you in your Airbnb it is not the kind of thing you’re going to miss,” a prosecution stated at the start of Rincon’s trial.
Cops reportedly apprehended the heist suspects, who were carrying $11,000 in cash. According to the affidavit, officers discovered many pounds of cocaine along the burglars’ route from the property.
Sawyer received some strong words from the judge during his initial appearance.
“I don’t know what’s going on in your life or what’s went on, but start thinking for you,” she told me. “Because all of your mother, girlfriend, and family’s tears and anguish will not assist you. “You are the only person who can help yourself.”
A spokesperson from Airbnb issued the following comment.
“We deplore the reported behavior, are willing to assist police with their investigations, and have communicated with our host to offer assistance. Airbnb has rigorous regulations, and we have removed a guest account from our platform while investigations continue.
