A First Alert Weather Day is now in effect Monday through Friday owing to high temperatures and humidity, as well as the possibility of a few violent storms. This week, high temperatures will return to the 90s over the Mid State, beginning this afternoon. With increased humidity, we may expect heat index values ranging from 100 to 105° in some regions.
A Heat Advisory is in force for far west Middle Tennessee today until Wednesday evening, with higher temperatures and humidity expected. There is also a chance of a couple of powerful storms in the area today, primarily west of Interstate 65. The severe threat is mostly isolated, but any storm that forms could bring heavy rain and powerful winds with it.
Tuesday’s highs will reach the mid-90s, with a heat index of more than 105° in certain portions of the Mid State. Again, there is a chance of a strong to severe storm developing tomorrow afternoon, although the overall risk remains isolated. Not everyone will witness storms tomorrow, but those who do should prepare for heavy downpours and powerful wind gusts.
The heat will peak on Wednesday and Thursday, with highs in the upper 90s and heat indexes near or exceeding 110° in some regions. No doubt, more heat advisories will be issued in the coming days.
Friday will be hot, with highs in the mid to upper 90s, so heat will be the primary focus of our First Alert Weather Day. However, we must also keep an eye out for isolated storms in some areas. As of present, there is no serious threat, but certain locations may still see heavy rain.
This weekend, temperatures will remain in the 90s, but the heat index will not be as high. A stray shower or storm cannot be ruled out, but most of us remain dry.
