A Fayetteville couple awoke to a surprise when a car lost control and smashed into the side of their home.

The pair is now left to pick up the pieces as the driver faces accusations.

As Martin Williams examined the damage to his house in daylight, he told ABC11 that he assumed it was merely something that fell when he awoke to a loud thud in the middle of the night. Then Williams peeked out his window and saw the flashing lights of the car that had slammed into his house.

“I was just trying to process what was going on until I saw the car out there in the yard and the guy’s out there, freaking out, crying and his girlfriend’s out there trying to calm him down,” according to Williams.

Before he knew it, Williams said the State Highway Patrol and fire trucks had surrounded his house. The skid marks can still be visible on Camden Road and in two front yards where officials believe the driver lost control of his 2011 Ford Mustang.

According to the Pearce’s Mill Fire Department, the motorist was heading southbound towards Hope Mills when he was cut off, drove over the road, and crashed into Williams’ home.

Williams said he is having his house assessed by insurance, but he expects to pay roughly $15,000 in damages.

“(The driver) tore my unit, air-conditioning,” he informed me. “You can see his glass from his window down there and all that mess out there.”

According to Williams, speed is considered to have played a role. In addition to destroying his fence, he said the car narrowly missed his gas line.

According to the State Highway Patrol, the driver has been charged with lane violation and will appear in court sometime within the next month.

“Slow down; it will be fine,” Williams said. “Everybody’s in a hurry.”
