A father-daughter “outing” to see her lover in Bedford County Prison resulted in their arrest after police discovered more than a pound of dangerous narcotics secreted beneath their car.

John Rickenbach Jr., 42, and his daughter Kayla, 23, both of Reading, were arrested and charged with narcotics possession with intent to supply during a car check in East Providence Township on Tuesday night.

According to the criminal complaint, state police saw the two on Lincoln Highway in a Chevy Blazer and saw that they had over the yellow line. An inquiry revealed that the car was registered to John, and they discovered he had two warrants out of Berks County. Kayla was recognized by troopers as a passenger in another cocaine operation on July 4th.

Troopers reported that when they pulled over the car, they detected a strong marijuana stench. According to accusations, there was also a tray on the center console containing marijuana. While speaking with John on their cruiser, he said that the two were on their way to meet Kayla’s boyfriend in Bedford County Prison before traveling to Maryland for a week.

According to the allegations, both John and Kayla consented to allow officers to examine their vehicle. Inside, troopers discovered several packages of marijuana, empty plastic bags, and $2,699 in cash according to ABC27.

Outside the Blazer, troopers discovered two sacks connected to the spare tire below the SUV. According to the complaint, one bag contained one pound and three ounces of methamphetamine, while the other contained a half pound of purple fentanyl. The two were escorted to a state police barracks in Bedford, where Kayla was discovered with a bag of cocaine.

John and Kayla were arraigned about 1 a.m. Wednesday and held in Bedford County Prison on $500,000 bond each.
