A Mississippi EMT was murdered by a vehicle while assisting a wreck victim after transporting another patient to an Alabama hospital.
Mary “Katie” Pipkins died Saturday, according to ASAP EMS Operations Manager Rusty Hembree.
“ASAP EMS mourns the loss of an amazing friend and colleague,” according to the statement.
According to Hembree, one of the ASAP crews was returning to their service area after transporting a patient to Mobile, Alabama. While returning, the crew came upon an accident scene and stopped to assist. Pipkins was hit by a passing vehicle while assisting one of the victims.
“We are heartbroken as a company over the loss of such a beautiful soul,” the message reads. “In every way, Miss Pipkins was a true hero.” Miss Pipkins set an example for those in EMS. Her kindness and love knew no bounds. She was an example to her coworkers and everyone she met.”
