A man was sentenced on Monday, nearly 45 years after the body of a woman from New Jersey was discovered in a cornfield in Solano County.

near the year 1980, two farm workers discovered the body of Holly Campiglia near Dixon, which was not yet incorporated. According to the Solano County Sheriff’s Office, she was not identified at the time, and she remained so for ten years after that.

Through the efforts of the National Missing Persons Unit, Holly was eventually located and identified in the year 1992. When she passed away, she had just turned 21 years old.

Until her family requested in 2021 to apply new technology with the old DNA and evidence obtained at the scene, the sexual assault and murder case remained unsolved.

According to the Solano County Sheriff’s Office, Herman Lee Hobbs, who was 76 years old at the time and was serving jail sentences for rape and murder, was named as a suspect in the case of Holly.

In Holly’s case, Hobbs was given a sentence that ranged from fifteen years to life in prison.

“Over the last four decades, Holly’s family has endured a great deal of suffering. In a statement, officials from the sheriff’s office noted that the individuals “turned their grief into action and never gave up in their search for justice.” “We know that today’s sentencing will not bring Holly back, but we hope that it gives them some peace.”
