Millions of Americans are getting ready to fly before the hectic Christmas holiday, but there may be some traffic jams and delays at major airports that could postpone your chance to finally be together with loved ones.
The 2024 holiday season is forecast to be a record-breaking one, with nearly 120 million Americans likely to travel.
Northeast
Some rain and snow might cause traffic jams on the regularly frequented Interstate 95 corridor until Friday, which is bad news for those of you trying to get an early start on your holiday travel plans in the East this week.
High temperatures in the 40s and 50s are predicted for Wednesday and Thursday along the I-95 corridor that runs from Boston to New York City and Philadelphia.
As the weekend draws near, snow may also fall in northern cities like Boston and Syracuse, New York.
On Wednesday, there is a chance of some rain, which might cause traffic jams on the local roads and highways as well as potential flight delays.
South
Travel from the Tennessee Valley to the Deep South during the early Christmas holiday may also be slowed by rain and possibly even some thunderstorms.
Before cooler air moves in and drops temperatures into the mid 40s on Thursday and the upper 30s on Friday, Nashville may see temperatures in the 60s on Wednesday.
Although there will likely be some rain in Memphis on Wednesday, the weather is predicted to stay moderate. On Thursday and Friday, however, temperatures will drop into the 40s as colder air moves in.
On Wednesday, thunderstorms with temperatures in the mid-60s are predicted to sweep across the Huntsville, Alabama, area further south. There will likely be a cooldown on Thursday and Friday.
Midwest
If you’re driving or taking a flight, the likelihood of snow will slow you down, and cities throughout the Midwest are predicted to be frigid.
The remainder of the week in Chicago is predicted to be in the 30s, and snow may cause airline delays and traffic jams on local roadways.
Snow is predicted for Minneapolis on Wednesday and Thursday as well, with better weather expected on Friday. However, it will be cold, so when you go outside, make sure to have warm clothing.
The remainder of the week will bring a mix of clouds and sunshine to Kansas City, Missouri, and St. Louis. On Wednesday and Thursday, Kansas City will have temperatures in the 40s and 50s, while St. Louis will see temperatures in the mid-40s.

West
There will be a range of temperatures and weather patterns in the West, with some rain and fog causing slowdowns in some larger cities all week long.
Through Friday, Seattle may anticipate occasional showers and temps in the 50s.
Los Angeles may anticipate high temperatures of 80 degrees on Wednesday, mid-70s on Thursday, and upper 60s on Friday as they travel along the Interstate 5 corridor. There will also be lots of sunlight and occasional clouds.
With some fog on Wednesday and highs of about 60 degrees through the end of the week, San Francisco will be a little colder.
While Salt Lake City is predicted to have lower temperatures with highs in the mid 50s through Friday, Phoenix is predicted to have bright, pleasant weather with highs in the 80s on Wednesday and Thursday.
